About The study

  • This randomised controlled trial uses a 2:1 ratio to randomise participants to hospital at home or acute hospital care, with 2 out of 3 people randomised to hospital at home and 1 out of 3 to acute hospital. This will limit the impact of the Trial on hospital admissions.
  • We will conduct a process evaluation and an interview study.
  • Participants will be part of the study for 12 months after enrolment.

The trial sites are identified and located on the map of the United Kingdom and Eire above: Southern Trust in Belfast, Northern Ireland; Lothian and Lanarkshire in Scotland; Aneurin Bevan in Wales; Bradford, GSTT: Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Devon & Exeter and North Devon in England.

This study is funded by the National Institute for Health Research, Health Services and Delivery Research (HS&DR) Programme and organised by the Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford.
